Proposed Annexation of 73 Parcels

On September 30, 2024, the Del Norte County Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCo), will hold a public hearing at 4:00PM or as soon after that time as the agenda allows. The hearing will be held at the Flynn Center, Supervisors’ Chambers, 981 H Street, Crescent City, CA 95531.

The purpose of the hearing will be to consider the application by Smith River Fire Protection District (SRFPD) to annex 73 parcels in the Oceanview sphere-of-influence (SOI) into the district boundaries.

The district would like to emphasize the following:

• Services have been provide to the affected parcels on a good-will-basis for many years. The annexation proposal makes SRFPD the responsible agency going forward.

• No new taxes are raised (SRFPD has entered into a revenue sharing agreement with the County of Del Norte for property taxes already being collected on these parcels).

• A Benefit Assessment will appear on the tax bills for parcels containing habitable structures in the amount of $27 per structure per year. This assessment was created in 1992, and the district has no plans to increase it.
